FIVE A SIDE SOCCER TOURNAMENT IN DIEPKLOOF SOWETO for PRIMARY SCHOOLS
A soccer tournament sponsored by KDA Travel and Tours and Soweto.co.za was held at the KHOMANANI Primary school in Zone 2 Diepkloof on Friday 11th October 2013. This is the 3rd year we have organized five a side events in Soweto. 8 Primary schools from the area participated and voted it a very successful event. The participating schools were: DUMEZWENI, ELETHENI, THABISELE, VULAMAZIBUKO, KHOMANANI, J Z MPANZA, MANGWELE and BOEPHAKITSO.

140 children participated in the tournament which comprised two age groups- under 11 and under 13. Both boys and girls played in the same teams with at least 2 girls playing at any time, with coaches having the ability to swap players at any time out of their squads of 10 making for maximum participation. The emphasis was on having fun in a competitive environment.

Congratulations to the winning teams:
UNDER 11-KHOMANANI (the host school), who defeated Dumezweni in the final 1-0.
UNDER 13-J S MPANZA, who defeated Eletheni in the final 1-0 on penalties.
And well done to the players selected as most valuable throughout the tournament:
Under 11 Melusi Magagula of Dumezweni, and under 13 Bongeka Ndladla of J S Mpanza.

A big thanks must also go to KYP (The Kliptown Youth Project) for assisting with management of the tournament and food preparation , Liana Laubscher and Altus Sports for program support and Khomanani School for use of the fields.
